Nong Khiaw is a beautiful little town in Laos, on the bank of the Nam Ou River. It is in between some of the most beautiful limestone mountains north of Luang Prabang.
Travellers usually visit Nong Khiaw to enjoy the wonderful nature. Nong Khiaw is a traveller´s heaven. Plenty of activities and probably the most wonderful nature you have ever seen…jungle, river, mountains and the most spectacular sunset and sunrise.
Be aware that Nong Khiaw is also known as Muang Ngoi (the name of the surrounding district), creating sometimes confusion with Muang Ngoi Neua, a town located further north.
Nong Khiaw is a traditional town, although it is little by little embracing tourism. However, it is still a very quite paradise, ideal for backpackers.
Around three hours by road from Luang Prabang, on your way to travel to Vietnam via Muang Khua by boat or Sam Neua by bus and with good connexions to Phongsali, Luang Namtha (and from here to Tahiland). Plenty of wonderful spots to take photos to. You can also head further north by boat, to Muang Ngoi, another marvellous town.
Nong Khwai is a must if you are in Southern Asia. You will never forget it, once you see it.
