Day 1: NongKhiaw-Ban ViengKham-NaLouang-Ban PhaYong
We depart from our office and cycle uphill towards Ban ViengKham (Lao minority group) for around 30 minutes. Along the way we explore PhaKouang Cave which was used as a bomb shelter during the Second Indochina War.
Afterwards, we will take some time to look around the village.
The road cruise along the way passes through rice fields, vegetable plantations and beautiful scenery before approaching Ban NaLouang (Khmu village). Here we will have a fantastic opportunity to get to know more about the culture of the Khmu ethnic group.
After relaxing we then swap cycling for walking. The walking activity starts by heading off through the beautiful valley and a forest for around half an hour before reaching a big waterfall, here we enjoy a Lao style local picnic lunch and there is time to swim. After that we head off via bicycle again through a remote bamboo forest and some unique limestone scenery. We finally arrive at Ban PhaYong (Hmong village) where we stay overnight.
Approximately: 5 hours cycling / 1 hour walking
Day 2: Ban PhaYong-Ban Pak Bark-NongKhiaw
After enjoying breakfast, we continue cycling for around 20 minutes before changing to the kayaking activity.
After a short basic paddling introduction and a safety talk, we practice for a bit before heading off downstream, where we encounter rapids of grade 2 (depending on the season), which is suitable for beginners level, for two and a half hours.
We will then have lunch at a scenic spot on the riverside. After enjoying our lunch, there will be time to relax and swim. The afternoon is spent paddling on a calmer section of the river where the beautiful scenery of the Nam Ou transforms into a spectacular limestone landscape.
Along the way we might see local people fishing and planting vegetables on the banks. The kayaking ends at Ban Pak Bark, here a pick up will be waiting to take you back to NongKhiaw.
Approximately: 20 minutes transport / 4 hours kayaking.
Option day 2 : you can do boat cruise or kayaking
